Something to think about

I'm not quite sure what to make of this installation. I am in aw of the sheer magnitude of the piece however when i look at this I have to think, if this is art, then what separates this from the shelves at walmart.

Lots of things have happened.

So in the past two and a half weeks or so.. has it really been that long?.. Anyways i have had quite a bit happen. First off I spent most of my two weeks gathering and finishing off my projects and pieces for my BFA certification, critique? Which I am proud to say I am now BFA certified. In the process of the BFA certification we were required to create an artist statement and with reflection upon my past work and my current tendencies, I have discovered that my work has more then mostly been about my vision.

here it is

My work is about sight. As Humans we uses our sight as a primary means of assessing our environment. However those who have it take if for granted and those who have never had it live on in the bliss of never having lost it. Then there are those who have had their sight taken away and the desperately wish for it again. I am of the latter group as I have lost my sight and require glasses to see and know how truly wonderful it is to have vision.
My past and present experiences of dealing with my damaged sight are the bases of my artwork. I use visual design to convey how it is to see the world through my damaged vision and to show the limits of how far I can see. I also use these techniques to express my feelings about my less than ideal vision. I see best fit to use the camera and digital media for my artwork. I find that the camera as is to capturing vision can be made to capture my take on vision as I see it. However even to that point the camera cannot always capture and express what I need to say and so I turn to sculpture to help further my expression of feelings and to help immerse a viewer. Sculpture has greatly helped me to develop my desire to express my sense of confusion anger and times of clarity that occur on a day to day bases as I have to wake up and put on my glasses on to see the day ahead of me.

Of course this could all change in the future however i feel i should definitely continue this process of though as it can be greatly expanded, and alsoi have been told by the faculty that I should also expand upon the ideas i am currently working with. Also in comments about one of my pieces where i projected myself and imagery on to a plaster cast of my self, i was compared or more so told that my work was similar to that of Tony Oursler who also does pieces involving projections on objects. below is an image of my piece.

However so this process was not intentionally a copy of his work. And in fact i feel that even thou our process are the same that concept behind our work is completely different. However so i do feel a little downed that my work was not so innovative or as original as i once thought. However so I do feel that this is a method that I do want to continue to peruse among others.

The final Showing

all right now that i fixed youtube, here is the showing of the pine box collab.

Project one Complete

So a week early we decided to put on our performance after only one days worth of composing and rehearsal. Surprisingly it turned out well. As I'm writing this I am uploading my videos of the Tuesday rehearsal and the Thursday performance. I find it strange how from that single wall of writing that we developed a "musical" language that everyone seemed to roughly understand.

update.. here are the vids.

hm... youtube is having fits with the final video, get back to you on that one.

and so i begin

At the start of the semester the class was given a list of figures of whom were not necessarily artists, and were told to become these people and as these people to make art threw their ideas and perceptions. I choose Henry Ford, and bought a biography entitled The Secret Life of Henry Ford which i just received today no latter then a week more then when the order was placed.
